$1B of TSA Nude Body Scanners Made Worthless By Blog — How Anyone Can Get Anything Past The Scanners

This video is here to demonstrate that the TSA’s insistence that the nude body scanner program is effective and necessary is nothing but a fraud, just like their claims that the program is safe (radiation what?) and non-invasive (nude pictures who?). The scanners are now effectively worthless, as anyone can beat them with virtually no effort. The TSA has been provided this video in advance of it being made public to give them an opportunity to turn off the scanners and revert to the metal detectors. I personally believe they now have no choice but to turn them off.

Please share this video with your family, friends, and most importantly, elected officials in federal government. Make sure they understand that your vote is contingent on them fixing the abuse that 200,000 passengers face from the TSA on a daily basis.

My legal battle against the TSA’s nude body scanner and pat-down molestation program continues in court, soon with a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court. If you’d like to donate to this effort, send PayPal to: jon [at] fourtentech.com

Transcript:

I’m publishing this video because I want the world to know how much danger the American Transportation Security Administration is putting all us all in with their haste to deploy the expensive, invasive nude body scanner program. When the machines came out, we were told that the invasion on our privacy, doses of radiation, and trashing of our Constitution were necessary because the old metal detectors weren’t good enough. That “non-metallic explosives” were a threat, even though no one has boarded a plane in the US with any type of explosive in nearly 40 years. But while America was testing these devices, Rafi Sela, who ran security for Ben Gurion airport in Israel, which is known for being one of the most secure airports in the world, was quoted saying he could “overcome the body scanners with enough explosives to take down a Boeing 747,” and Ben Gurion therefore refused to buy scanners. The US ignored this warning, and Mr. Sela never publicly explained his statement. But it stuck with me.

As a scientist, engineer, and frequent traveler, as well as the first person to sue the TSA when they rolled out the scanners as primary in Nov. 2010, I studied and learned about both kinds of scanners currently in use by the TSA. Here are several images produced by TSA nude body scanners. You’ll see that the search victim is drawn with light colors and placed on a black background in both images. In these samples, the individuals are concealing metallic objects that you can see as a black shape on their light figure. Again that’s light figure, black background, and BLACK threat items. Yes that’s right, if you have a metallic object on your side, it will be the same color as the background and therefore completely invisible to both visual and automated inspection.

It can’t possibly be that easy to beat the TSA’s billion dollar fleet of nude body scanners, right? The TSA can’t be that stupid, can they?

Unfortunately, they can, and they are. To put it to the test, I bought a sewing kit from the dollar store, broke out my 8th grade home ec skills, and sewed a pocket directly on the side of a shirt. Then I took a random metallic object, in this case a heavy metal carrying case that would easily alarm any of the “old” metal detectors, and walked through a backscatter x-ray at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. On video, of course. While I’m not about to win any videography awards for my hidden camera footage, you can watch as I walk through the security line with the metal object in my new side pocket. My camera gets placed on the conveyer belt and goes through its own x-ray, and when it comes out, I’m through, and the object never left my pocket.

Maybe a fluke? Ok, let’s try again at Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport through one of the TSA’s newest machines: a millimeter wave scanner with automated threat detection built-in. With the metallic object in my side pocket, I enter the security line, my device goes through its own x-ray, I pass through, and exit with the object without any complaints from the TSA.

While I carried the metal case empty, by one with mal-intent, it could easily have been filled with razor blades, explosives, or one of Charlie Sheen’s infamous 7 gram rocks of cocaine. With a bigger pocket, perhaps sewn on the inside of the shirt, even a firearm could get through. It’s important to note that any metal object of any size can use this technique. …and I don’t urge you to try to bring contraband through security, as the nude body scanners often have false positives: so while the metal on your side might get through, a button on your shirt or a sweaty armpit might “look suspicious” and earn you a pat down anyway.

Now, I’m sure the TSA will accuse me of aiding the terrorists by releasing this video, but it’s beyond belief that the terrorists haven’t already figured this out and are already plotting to use this against us. It’s also beyond belief that the TSA did not already know everything I just told you, and arrogantly decided to disregard our safety: anything to force Americans to give up our liberty to the federal government and our tax dollars to companies that are in bed with that government. The nude body scanner program is nothing but a giant fraud, which should come as no surprise after the Fast & Furious scandal that sent thousands of guns to Mexican drug cartels and cost a Customs and Border Patrol agent his life. THIS is a disgrace. So let’s fix this problem — now — before the terrorists take this opportunity to hurt us: the TSA must immediately end the nude body scanner program, and return to the tried-and-true metal detectors that actually work, and work without invading our privacy, as well as implement better solutions for non-metallic explosives, such as bomb-sniffing dogs and trace detection machines.

The TSA is worse than ineffective: they are an epic fail placing us all in danger. Beyond the scanners, Demand of your legislators and presidential candidates that they get rid of this $8B a year waste known as the TSA and privatize airport security. Ask for their commitment to our rights in exchange for your vote. And no matter which party is in the White House or holds on to Capital Hill, the issue of ending TSA abuse is of interest to all Americans; it’s NOT a partisan issue. We must all stand together and demand an end to the organization that molests our families while placing us in danger by directly ignoring blatant security flaws.

Thank you.

  1. Why don’t they have a metal detector before you walk into the body scanner? Double check, sounds good to me.

  2. Great job! Everyone should thank you for what you have done in defence of liberty and in defence of truth. I certainly thank you but ………….it is a job that you should never have had to do. I can believe anything of governments but the biggest wakeup call to me ever has been that the average person in the street actually accepts and VOLUNTARILY submits to this outrageous molestation at both the virtual and the physical level. What is wrong with everyone, what happened to commonsense! If we are so much of a danger to each other that every square inch of our bodies needs to be scrutinized would we not be better off staying at home! Have we all become so moronic that we cannot distinguish between right and wrong; that we cannot recognize an agenda of dehumanization when we see it. Don’t people realise that this is the biggest power grab since Hitler came to power and that in the end this could cost them their lives! FEMA camps anyone! If the government can get the people to surrender their rights so readily what can the government not get them to do? How is it that in the 21st century people are still so unsophisticated that all the government has to do is say ‘terror’ and ‘terrorists’ a few times and everyone lines up to be processed like iron filings responding to a magnet. I am totally stunned and shocked by the sheer idiocy and conformity of the majority of my fellow beings. This type of security agenda has absolutely no place in a free society and is reliant for its success on playing on peoples’ worst fears and inadequacies.

Here in the UK there is a ‘no scan no fly policy’, no exceptions granted the same as they have in Russia and the Ukraine and probably many other ex-communist regimes. My reaction to that is that hell will freeze over before you get me within a mile of an airport full of security staff who have been given that kind of power over people. To my mind that is both dangerous and unnecessary. I refuse to pay to be abused. You pay your money for a service which should be courteous, efficient and respectful of your human rights at all times, you should not be treated in a manner that denies you your dignity and your humanity. When you enter an airport these days you are basically under a state of arrest, the fact that you wish to take a flight immediately identifies you as a suspect for crimes unknown. I absolutely refuse to pay to be put in such an invidious position. People who do not see the danger they are putting themselves in are walking round with their eyes shut.

It all started with the shoes. I will not take my shoes off for anyone. Why should I? You shouldn’t either. To do otherwise means that I consent to an unlawful, suspicionless search. That makes me an accessory to breaking the law and by my consent it makes me as guilty as the person who carries out the search. So first it was the shoes, then the belts and coats, then the scanners and the molestation. What next? Not many ppl realize this but once you start degrading ppl in this way you are on the first rung of the genocidal ladder. Genocide does not mean just killing vast numbers of people, it also means all the interim steps that lead up to that. This TSA agenda bears all the hallmarks of Nazism. Can’t you smell it! It is so dangerous to give a group of uneducated, low-wage nobodies such a huge amount of power over other people and this is no ordinary power. This goes further than any power granted by law. In fact it is above the law. The TSA is accountable to no-one and they have the right to physically search your person and sit in a backroom and view the travelling public naked! This is a pervert’s charter! It is a recipe for endless abuse of every kind not least sexual. It is totally disgusting. Moreover, it is not at all healthy for society as a whole. Society has certain standards of decency and for good reason. It should never be a requirement for security that people need to give up any part of their liberty.
How about a great deal less security, especially when it is purely security theatre and therefore totally useless, and a great deal more liberty. Personally I am happy to trust my fellow citizens that they are as peace loving and law abiding as myself. Currently you have more chance of being struck by lightning or dying from a bee sting than being caught up in a terrorist attack. Right now the biggest threat to our safety both psychologically and physically comes from our governments. These are the real terrorists and the best way we can save ourselves from them is for every citizen to protect the rights of all other citizens by vilifying the TSA at every opportunity for being the degenerate perverts that they are, ostracizing them from society and refusing to use the airports until this disgraceful episode in our history is ended and commonsense prevails. I am sure that in the free market there will be airports who will provide this level of security for those who for some reason find it reassuring. For the rest of us, we want liberty and we want choice. And we do not want our taxes being spent on the wages of people who are so devoid of all decency that the only way they can find to earn a living is by molesting people for the government.

Everyone needs to remember the lessons of history and everyone needs to remember that while you are alive on this earth there is always an element of risk in everything you do. So for all the cowards out there and all the people who feel that we need state intervention in every aspect of our lives let me remind you that THE GOVERNMENT CAN NEVER KEEP YOU SAFE. And even if it could, is such a state of affairs really desirable?

    1. Every word of your statement is music to my ears. Let’s keep fighting together, and we will defeat these authoritarian assholes one way or another.

  3. Ok so I didn’t read everyone’s comments so I’d guess I’m not gonna be the first to say this, but couldn’t the TSA simply start scanning people sideways also? sounds easy enough. “Ok, please face forward. Ok now please turn to your right, now your left, ok your done.” Problem solved right?!?

  4. You are all under arrest on aiding terrorist plot against USA.
Everybody in this forum must report immediately to nearest FBI office.
Every sentence written here can be used against you.
Those who are not U.S. citizens must contact local CIA agent for immediate deportation to Guantanamo bay.

    FBI – internet inspection office.

  5. I agree that this is a waste of money. Remember that this is about government contracts and not so much about security and well rated and well tested solutions. Possibly this has prevented terror groups from formally trying more monkey business than pre-9/11?
At the same time for everyone to have to remove shoes and be singled out for a full search through a numbers game, using radiation scanners is not helping much. Ideas like cultural sensitivity ( to not offend the US Haters) is no longer valid. If you do not want to assimilate, then stay off the plane. Is it your right to ware a religious outfit? Possibly. On this land of the USA. Elsewhere the answer is no and if you cause a problem for the security of a nation the best thing that can happen is an instant death. Look at the rules China puts in place as soon as you step on their land.
Is it your right as a foreigner to tell us how to secure our borders and defend ourselves against groups that can destroy our infrastructure? No. If we want to profile people and that will in turn speed up flights and security lines then I am willing to deal with that. Especially if it means reduced scanning episodes, by uncalibrated and under serviced radiation devices.

Either way, these are US tax payer dollars, being spent by groups who never audit or review spending in detail, if it is audited at all. This is why the phrase that this is a government by the people and for the people, is so powerful and important.

Whenever there have been security related events in the air, by idiots who try to ignite their shoes or under ware, it is almost always the passengers who protect the flight and beat up these offenders. (These so called ‘threatening’ attackers basically look like a perfect blotter poster of spoiled children who are disappointed with life.)

While there is a lot of propaganda in anti-American circles over-seas showing how 9/11 was a BIG WIN for their mission, they have no idea how powerful we are as a nation of people. The good news is Internet resources – like access to Wikipedia, historical documents and semi-local news of failed promises by the same groups like Hamas or Hezbollah will eventually dismantle their following.
All of these groups are lead by leaders who are weak themselves, trying to brainwash mentally weak kids, using threats like salvaging their family to be a martyr. In some of their prayer sessions this is called noble. In educated societies this is seen as almost unbelievable.

  6. Jon,

You are an outstanding patriot and one smart dude! Thank you for standing up for all of our rights. I hope many people come forward and support you in this important and venerable endeavor.

  7. OUT OF MY PANTS! :
It’s even harder because American infrastructure promotes flying, so people who do want to stop flying have no options. We’re far behind on high speed trains and driving across country is expensive, a drag, and yes, expensive. Flying is much cheaper, is well funded, and not going anywhere, so that’s why they decided to trample on our rights.

Actually for a family of four it is cheaper to drive cross country than fly. Unfortunatly my next trip is to South America, driving is not so much of an option.

    1. You’re not factoring in hotel prices. I paid over $400 to drive from one state to the other, 3 days, 2 nights. That’s the same cost of a round trip ticket.

  8. I worked Pre 911 as a private contractor installing bomb sniffing devices at a major international airport. The Sniffers were a joke. The people running them would constantly contaminate their areas making the sensitive machines ineffective. For years after that, even post 911, I saw them sitting idle at every major airport I passed through. I hope the training and tech has improved. The issue then was not so much the private contractors, but the poorly paid airport security people. The budget for training. Additionally, I was able to walk in places I should not had access too without being stopped, dressed as a civilian.

We were told they were worried about terrorism in the briefing, and this was going to be the new tech to stop an attack. So much for that. Too many false alarms. Millions upon millions wasted.

  9. “…they are an epic fail placing us all in danger.”
Change this sentence and I will take you seriously.

  10. BW :
YW, not sure what airport you travel to/from

I have been through security at BOS, CLE, PDX, and LGA in the last few months and have had the metal detector before the pat down experience. Since your experience is different, it just further indicates how silly it all is.

  11. Thanks for posting this “expose”. But, I believe this is actually a politically motivated message. Of course, you are free to voice your opinions. But, your assertion that the privatization of the TSA will help fix the problem is as flawed as alleged misuse of this technology. This leads me to have serious doubts about the veracity of your technical claims.

    1. Right, because people of opposing political views can’t be technical.

Again, if anyone here doubts this, my response is: try it yourself. Take a benign metal object, put it on your side, and see if it gets found.

  12. Seriously… if the goal is to improve national security, I would rather see the CIA carry out covert pre-emptive strikes (with the intention of eliminating terrorists at their source) instead. Surely that would be far more cost-effective than the alternative of invasive devices that don’t even work as intended.

  13. Reblogged this on Durable Faith and commented:
TSA Naked Scanners are unpopular, ineffictive, and are now banned in Europe due to risk of radiation leading to cancer. Why then are they deployed in the US and why is the TSA expanding to highways, trains, and schools?

They are conditioning you to accept total dominance by your government, plain and simple.

  14. Here is another nugget of clarity for DevilsAdvocate

“The DoJ implicitly affirms that they understand that we all have a constitutional right to travel. However, they proceed to state that there “is no constitutional right to travel by a specific mode of transportation; Plaintiff has the option of traveling by car, bus, or train,” essentially putting it down in writing that the government’s position is, “Don’t like it? Take the train.” It goes without saying, but naturally this doesn’t work to overseas destinations (or even the 50th US state), and makes business travel impossible. The train on my most frequently flown route (NY to Miami) takes about 30 hours — it’s not simply an inconvenience, but impractical. …and we all know that the trains are next on the TSA’s list, as are buses, and soon enough, the highways.”

So the whole “just take the bus/car/train” bit doesn’t work, does it?

  15. Lame test. You brought a flimsy little tin case through a scanner. This doesn’t mean the tin case was undetected. The TSA dudes may well have seen it and simply ignored it. Are they required by law to interrogate every person who left an Altoids tin or cigarette case in their pocket? I don’t think so, and in a busy airport I’m sure they use their judgement, however feeble that may be.

Here’s a real test: try to walk through the scanner with a 4-inch long 3/4-inch diameter iron pipe with pipe caps screwed on to both ends. “Pipe bomb? Oh, this? No, this is just a tube I use to keep my tampons dry… Wait, where are you taking me?” Hell, I’d even be impressed if you can make it past the scanner with a screw driver. You did say you can get ANYTHING past the scanners. They won’t take you to jail for “forgetting” that you left a screwdriver in your pocket. They’ll just confiscate it; ask you to check it; or let you mail it to yourself.

I’m not defending the scanners, but I find your methods to debunk the scanners to be rather unconvincing. The technology of the scanners is quite impressive even if not 100% effective. But that doesn’t seem to be your real concern. Even if the scanners were 100% effective I gather that you would still be against them on principle. If if have misinterpreted your message then how effective should they be before you would accept them?

    1. Noah Spurrier – what, exactly, are your qualifications that you think you can speculate on the mindset or capabilities of the TSA’s thought processes. This guy carried in a tin can that should have been caught as an “anomaly” and interrogated further to find out what it was – that is the reason why you have to empty all of your pockets and such for the body scanner. I agree that he should have done a test with the tin in a front pocket to see if they caught it, along with a test of a tin can that actually did have Altoids or something else in it as a litmus test. But don’t think for one minute that you can actually attempt to defend the TSA for what is a huge flaw in their billion-dollar techonology and scanning procedures.

And as far as your “bring in a pipe bomb” statements, well – is it not enough to read the news on a very regular basis about the people who are able to get past security with loaded guns, knives, or any other sort of actual weapon?

100% security requires the release of 100% of your rights, period. We need to accept a certain amount of risk in order to have a freer state of travel, or accept the type of crap that we are subjected to in the name of security and at a profit state for the corporations involved.

      1. Nobody requires a qualification to speculate. And I don’t need qualifications to tell you what I would do if I was working the busy scanner line and I saw what looks like an Altoids tin in your pocket — “Move along, sir.” Also know what I would do if I saw a screwdriver in your pocket –“Step aside, sir, we need to talk to you.” Is that TSA policy? I have no idea, but I know in situations where official policy contradicts common sense and reason then I ignore official policy — in this case, I let the Altoids carrying nerd pass. I suspect some people who actually work at the TSA and know the rules might think like me, so I infer they might behave as I would.

The point wasn’t to speculate on the policies of the TSA. The point was to cast doubt on the worth of this test. Is it TSA policy to confiscate your mints and cigarette cases? I have no idea, but I wouldn’t care if the TSA didn’t care either. I wouldn’t call smuggling Altoids past the TSA scanner a flaw in the system, so, yes, I can defend the billion dollar system. Passing an Altoids wielding terrorist just doesn’t seem broken to me. No matter what the TSA policy is on this I am personally unimpressed by Altoids smugglers. On the other hand, I would agree that there is a flaw in the scanner system if someone was allowed to walk through carrying a 12-inch screwdriver or what looks like a pipe-bomb (even if it just held your tampons.) Again, I don’t care what the TSA policy is on pipe bombs (I COULD speculate), but I would be very angry by a billion dollar system that does not reliably detect and block pipe bombs or even screwdrivers.

    2. That little tin case could easily contain blades, a small firearm (there are guns that small) or a not trivial amount of explosive. Or it could simply be a lighter. That case was an excellent test. Most likely someone will notice an item as large as most handguns. That case could have contained something much more dangerous than a mere screwdriver. Oh and in many states, possessing something that even looks like a pipe-bomb is going to get you arrested.

His method was very convincing. I wish he’s arranged for someone right behind him to have a camera placed to record the test. His camera really didn’t show anything.

  16. Ford :
Actually, privatization of airport security was a reality up until 9/11. It was one of the reasons the hijackers were so easily able to get onto the planes, because non-standard, profit-maximizing methods were shoddy or lacking in one department or another. Since the government has taken control of airport security, despite the abuses it has resulted in, we are actually safer than when airport security was privatized.

The TSA has not caught a single terrorist. Not one. There have been plenty of instances of contraband making it through the checkpoint though. There is zero chance that a determined terrorist will fail to get contraband through security no matter who is running the show. Once they get to the checkpoint, the system has already failed.

    1. The reason the TSA has not caught any terrorists is because that’s not their job. I believe that’s what the CIA, FBI, and military are busy doing. The only measure of success of the TSA is the absence of terrorists trying to board your flight. How do you measure that? A terrorist who shows up to a TSA checkpoint today with a briefcase full of box cutters and zip-ties would be a stupid terrorist. Maybe the terrorists aren’t that retarded so they don’t bother. This function of the TSA is what we call a “deterrent”. I can’t remember the last time I read about terrorists on a US flight. It could be because the terrorists have gotten lazy, but I think there is some other reason terrorists don’t try to board flights anymore. Can you tell us why terrorists don’t fly anymore? Nobody said a checkpoint is certain to be 100% effective, but having no checkpoints is certain to be 0% effective. If you don’t like the TSA checkpoints then what do you propose to replace them?

      1. Noah, get this through your thick skull – there are two large deterrents that came as a result of 9/11. First, the airlines reinforced the door to the cockpit so that no normal passenger can get in, and Second, it created an awareness among the traveling population that any schmuck that stands up and thinks they are going to take over an airplane will have at least 10 or 20 individuals willing to put their lives at risk to stop it. When is the last time you read about a plane being “hijacked”? Exactly. So stop trying to justify the lack of the TSA capabilities with some melodrama about not reading about terrorists on a US flight. NOONE said that we should not have a checkpoint – it is about how we go about the security process at the checkpoint that is in question.

  17. Squash TSA!!! Return security to the airports and airlines. It is a worthless department, 100% worthless, there is no value in it. If you think there is than you’d be one of the people who could not reason why the world was not flat. TSA doesn’t improve safety. It is a safe haven for deviant sexual predators, and power hungry nobody’s. $8 billion is a drop in the bucket with the national debt, but it’s a great place to start the cutting.

  18. last time i checked we havent had any planes explose since TSA was put into place. U have the right to bitch but I have the right to BE SAFE. Why are these body scanners so evil? Do you all have tiny dicks or something?

    1. Last time I checked, there were no yellow elephants in my basement. What’s your point? The scanners violate the constitutional rights of American citizens, and the health effects are, at best, not known, and at worst, covered up.

When they start searching your house illegally, I assume you’ll be the one saying, “yup, come right in, I have nothing to hide, I’m a good American.”

  19. I think this is more of an issue about racism and racial profiling at the airport. When I, an African American female, go to the airport, with almost 90% certainty, I get the pat down. The last time, I got the scanner, a pat down, and a “random” bag search.

I guess a different security exists for “normal” looking white people.

  20. I think some have picked up on this flaw because at SFO I was asked to turn 90°, which would take of the proposed problem.

So there is a solution, just take 2 pics. Of course it takes longer and costs more.

All airports that I have been to still have the metal detectors. You can always opt for that line.

    1. No, ron, you actually cannot “opt” for a certain line. Once you go in, they can “direct” you to a line that THEY choose. Also, you can go through and then suddenly get selected for a “random” check where you stand in the penalty box and wonder about whether or not your carry-on and valuables will still be there while waiting for them to do whatever it is they “randomly” want to do.

  21. Steve – you don’t have the right to have any other citizen’s rights violated in the name of your own desire for personal safety. News flash – you are not safe. At any time, someone with the intent to harm can do so, and you can end up in a bodybag. So go move to another country where they like to take away human rights and dignity. Last I checked, we are supposed to be a country that represents freedom and rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

Candice – you’re kidding me, right? You are actually going to try to say that the TSA is racist? Sorry, I don’t buy it. They are inept at practice, yes. But looking at all of the coverage in the last two years, I’m afraid there are plenty of people affected – white, black, brown, old, young, male, and female of all religions, races, and nationalities.

Scary but true. Boxcutters, that’s all it took to bring down the Twin Towers.

And it could of just as easily been done with a jagged plastic knife. This false sense of security with the scanners is a Joke.

  24. Very scientific. Using this methodology we can prove, for example, that every day the weather will be sunny / rainy / cold / warm (take your pick). You simply videotape the weather when you wake up and claim you have proof that it is sunny / rainy/ cold / warm (take the same pick). every day.
Did I read correctly. The guy is an engineer? Hmm…

    1. And how was he supposed to get more proof? Think the TSA would give him a printout of his scan? Think they’d let someone videotape him walking through?

      1. In that case, just don’t bother.
It is not right to spread unsubstantiated allegations based on pseudo science as if they are absolute truth.
I believe similar (in substance) “scientific” techniques were used to justify, for example, burning “witches” in the dark ages.
If you can’t absolutly prove something don’t pretend otherwise. Present the data as an opinion, not as god’s truth (and don’t ask me to prove god 🙂 ).

  25. kyle :Every post-security restaurant I’ve been to uses plastic knives, just sayin’

You’re kidding me, right? You obviously haven’t been to one of the prestigious frequent flier/business clubs.

  26. wow this guy looks like a douchebag. like really wahts the deal with ur lame mic and queer headset? are u for fucking real bro? Also this is NOT irrelevant technology this should be used IN CONJUNCTION with Metal detectors and other information gathering technologies.

Coupling this with VITAL SIGN identification, to determine apprehension or anxiety would greatly increase arrests made at port of entries.

  27. [Blog Owner’s Note: james is a TSA Employee. (IP: 216.81.80.134 , gw-dc2-va.tsa.dhs.gov)]

what about the christmas day bomber. Where was his mattalic IED. Ohh Wait it wasn’t mattalic it was a baggy of explosives and a plastic suringe with more explosives. hummm although you may have a point, your point doesn’t cover all assets of security.

      1. Senor, maybe you didn’t read the article. The body scanners will NOT find plastics. Thin skin colored plastics pancaked and molded on skin will pass through a scanner.

      2. Um, no, dogs don’t cause cancer but I sure wouldn’t want the likes of Pistole and Napolitano adovating a “one size fits all” biting policy.

      3. While I’m against the TSA in general I don’t see a reason not to do both and force the person to rotate while they are in the body scanner if the whole problem is that stuff on your sides won’t show up and a metal detector can only detect metal. While I personally think it’s a waste of time and money (more planes fall out of the sky at random than have been used in the history of flight in terrorist attacks) it seems that having more layers would make us safer.

    1. But really, what does it matter? The point is that explosives such as those you mention could be put in a metal tin just like the one used and taken onto a plane. Did you not think your question through?

    2. You must of missed the part about ‘metal detectors and bomb sniffing dogs”.

    3. What’s it matter? He got all the way to the plane and sat down before a passanger reported something odd. I hope you’re not saying the detroit bomber is an example of the effectiveness of the TSA… because it’s the opposite.
Further, Living is dangerous. No amount of security will keep you (or me) from dying. Think about it as a bomber might: If the security checkpoint will catch my bomb – why not detonate it in the security line? Or the parking lot? Or the check-in counter? Hell, with the right weaponry, one need not even be in the airport – you can be across the highway with a handgun to bring down a plane.
My point is: All this money and fear-mongering is absurd. No amount of security will stop a determined mind.

    4. He specifically said, “even though no one has boarded a plane in the US with any type of explosive in nearly 40 years.” That is IN THE US…. The Christmas Day bomber attempted to detonate plastic explosives hidden in his underwear while on board Northwest Airlines Flight 253, en route from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan, on December 25, 2009.

Judging by your spelling abilities, my suggestion would be to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool instead of opening it and removing all doubt.

  28. very interesting that i cant post this to facebook. other articles post find. this one wont go through.
